WELCOME WINTER!

Our year is moving right along, and now we are ready for some snowflakes to fly! The students are all making good progress, enjoying school, and having new experiences each day. In December we will go bowling at Lee Hi Lanes on Apperson Rd, purchase a dollar gift for a classmate, and stop for lunch at DQ. The students will exchange the small gift back at school.

We look forward to the long winter break and a well-deserved rest for the hard work of the first semester. Upon our return we will continue to work on the centers which include reading, math, maker, STEAM, life skills, independent, and large motor. At each station students must make choices, actively engage, and follow directions. You will see some nice end products of the two-week center’s work.

We plan on attending the Cave Spring Middle School production of Frozen in February as our own Ms. Kate Garcia is the theater coach for that school. We have enjoyed her student’s productions in the past, and love being with the larger group of students.

Valley View Mall is another field trip destination in February. On this trip we practice our life skills in the community, and go on a sort of scavenger hunt to find exits, restrooms, particular stores, and the train!

Meanwhile we continue to participate in the STEAM curriculum and the House meetings with the whole school. We enjoy our time in Music and PE with our more typically developing peers, and will return to the playground when the weather is mild. Four days a week our first grade classes join us for our Literacy Block as we read the online newspaper News2You together and participate in the activities.
